Twmpathology are a five-piece twmpath/ceilidh/barn-dance* band based in the North-West corner of Wales, around the historic town of Caernarfon. Formed about four years ago, all the band have many years of experience playing music for dancing, and enjoy dancing themselves, so they know what’s needed to get those feet moving!
We play for weddings, parties, festivals and have taken our 'wild welsh twmpath' to Cecil Sharp House , London, to play for the Hwyl Festival which celebrates all things Welsh. We have also performed at the Green Man Festival in the Brecon Beacons.
The band are:-
Jan – Piano Accordion, ukelele and vocals
Alice – Fiddle, bohdran and vocals
Bruce – Guitar and vocals
Danny – Fiddle, vocals and bass guitar
The band usually appear with their regular caller, Martin, who also adds percussion, occasional melodeon and…. fun!! Yes, our emphasis is always on people joining in and having fun… a lot of fun!!! We don’t mind if you go wrong, fall over or have two left feet – as long as you have fun, then we are happy that we have done our job! Martin (or our other callers) will tell you all you need to know and guide you through the dances with skill, patience and good humour. No previous experience required!
We play tunes from Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland and beyond, all carefully picked and arranged to suit the amazing variety of dances we do, and we put a few songs in as well while you are taking a breather. All played with a passion for good music, and a desire to give you an event to remember.
* - twmpath? ceilidh? barn-dance? – what’s that all about? Well most people know what a barn dance is – a social dance to folk music. A ceilidh is generally much the same, only a bit more lively and energetic. And a dawns twmpath is the Welsh word for a ceilidh/barn dance. Simples…..
