Winter Season - Caban Brynrefail 2016/17

Feuding brothers, chilly vistas and sickly sheep provide the perfect premise for this darkly comedic Icelandic saga as the next film for Occasional Cinema at Caban.

08 February

Grimur Hakonarson     Iceland    2015    93 mins     15

In a secluded Icelandic valley, estranged brothers Gummi and Kiddi are warring neighbours, competing with each other for the best ram prize that has become a symbol of their  family feud. But when the spectre of the fatal scrapie disease threatens their remote farms, both brothers are faced with the prospect of a cull. Can these long-term enemies find common purpose when their ancestral stock and way of life are threatened?

‘Switching from dour humour to humanist drama without seeming contrived, this is a masterclass in combining character and landscape that is played with deceptive poignancy by the excellent leads.’            Empire
Winner of 29 Film Awards and a further 8 Nominations
